The NHL will be making an announcement on Tuesday about its plans for the World Cup of Hockey, which will be played in 2020 in Mexico City.
The NHL announced the announcement this morning in a statement that noted the league has been discussing the issue with CONCACAF, the confederation for the Americas, and will make the announcement when it does.
The announcement was made in a meeting of the Board of Governors of the National Hockey League on Tuesday, the league said in the statement.
The board’s meeting is expected to conclude around 4:30 p.m.
The Board of Directors of the NHL is made up of hockey and governing bodies from all 32 national sports leagues and includes the Commissioner, Presidents, Directors of Player Development, Executive Vice Presidents, and Head and Senior Vice Presidents of Hockey Operations.
The meeting of owners and players will discuss how to move forward with the event and how the league can best support its teams.
The Board of Governor also will consider how to better engage its fans and sponsors through its social media and fan engagement efforts, the statement said.
