World Cup: The first ever tournament of the 1984 world champions

The first-ever tournament of a world team to win the world cup was held in the city of Tehran in April 1984, with Iran’s champions beating Uzbekistan 6-0 in front of an audience of over 1.5 million people.
The match between the champions, Uzbekistan and Pakistan, was the final match of the group stage, before Iran’s team qualified for the final, and the final to be played on the last day of the tournament.
The game featured the world’s greatest football players, including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raheem Sterling.
The team’s victory was a first for Iran since the first-round match between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan in 1978.
The World Cup is the oldest continuously held event in the world, and is considered the most prestigious sporting event in modern times.
