Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro set to host World Cup, World Cup format

Croatia and Serbia are set to join the World Cup as they prepare to host the first ever world cup in Europe.
The teams will face off in their respective stadiums on May 9 and 10.
The matches are expected to be played on the same day and will be held in front of a crowd of around 40,000 spectators.
Croatia, which won the 1994 World Cup with a 3-2 victory over the Netherlands, are expected be the hosts in the tournament’s second phase, which begins on June 3.
They are followed by Serbia, who defeated the Netherlands 4-2 in the semi-finals.
Croats have won the tournament in each of the previous two tournaments, including a 2-0 victory in the second round.
The 2018 World Cup is the first time a new host nation has been invited to the event.
